July 2017 Open Studio and Demonstration by Don Geyra

The Flowiing Color Studio, using the words of a recent visitor, "is a jewell in the Bloomington Community!"  We send thanks to all of our visitors!

Join Us Friday, July 7, 2017 for the Flowing Colors Open Studio this month Don Geyra is featured and will be demonstrating.

Red Buds at T.C. Steele  2017

He will be demonstrating plein air with oils in the entry way of the Caveat Emptor Building  This oil painting was done plein-air on April 12, 2017 with the Upland plein-air painters. It represents my favorite style of painting. Working directly from life with the references all around me.  After so many years I find I rely very little on preliminary sketches.
I search for my subject and lay it in tonally with a fast drying glaze. As that sets up I begin applying finish colors.  Occasionally I will spend a little time finishing in my studio but essentially as in this case the painting is completed in situ.
I most enjoy being in the moment and capturing my subject as a recognizable image in real time.  Don Geyra
