Flowing Colors Gallery “New (S)Tile” - A bisque affair; artist reception & open studio night

Pie Woman Blue Dress - Tile

Flowing Colors Gallery “New (S)Tile” - A bisque affair; artist reception & open studio night for
Patricia C. Coleman's new ceramic work December 7th, 2018 in the Flowing Colors Studio/Gallery and is part of an exploration in tile-making for an installation. These tiles are presented in the bisque form, meaning that they have gone through a kiln firing yet remain unglazed. Some of the pieces have colorful under-glazes; most of the bisque bas relief pieces remain in their natural clay color.

These tiles and adjoining works continues the artist lifelong interest in light, form texture, abstract pattern design, peace and the natural world.
Open Studio Reception for "New (S)Tile" is Friday December 7th, 2018, 5-8 PM.  Light refreshments including a vegetable bisque.

Flowing Colors Studio & Gallery exhibits the work of artist Joanne Shank, Don Geyra, Patricia C. Coleman and Betty Wagoner and is home to food artisan Quilter's Comfort. Original, local art, Holiday Cards, handmade silk and cotton scarves and unique gifts are available.

Alyssa Many Joins Flowing Colors Studio and Katya Alexeeva Visits

Here we are at the end of July and finally getting some cooler  temperatures.  It has been in the 80's since almost early spring!

Pink Glasses V - Alyssa Many

GREAT NEWS!  Alyssa Many has joined Flowing Colors Studio and we have a visiting artist, Katya Alexeeva .  Many and Alexeva's works open with the first Friday Reception on August 3, 2018, 5-8 PM.  Light refreshments will be served.

Outstanding Storms II - Alyssa Many

Alyssa Many graduated from Herron School of Art and Design in 2006 with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts majoring in Furniture Design and a second Bachelor’s degree in Art Education. I taught elementary art in the public schools of Indianapolis full-time from 2006-2013. My experience as a juror for a murder trial in 2008 was life-changing for me.  As a result of this event, I chose painting as my medium. My symbolic realistic paintings remind us that we are related to everyone and everything in our world.

Works opening in Flowing Colors are from “No Captain, We Share This Universe” a series of oil paintings that illustrate the devastating contrast in realities between those who leave their homes to go to new places for pleasure and those who leave their homes to go to new places for survival.  All paintings in this series are for sale and fifty percent of all sales will go to the Asylum Seeker Advocacy Project.   For more information about this organization, please visit their website at Home - Asylum Seeker Advocacy Project (ASAP) https://asylumadvocacy.org/

Betty Wagoner News-  Recently, I participated in a paint-out contest at the Haan
Museum in Lafayette and a paint-out at the Indiana Barn Foundation
meeting at Dull's Tree Farm near Thorntown, IN.

Opal Mills has been creating artwork in miniature form for as long as she can remember, always with an emphasis on jewelry making, fueled by inspiration from the natural world.

Brandon Lee has been drawing most of his life with his favorite medium of charcoal.  He took his first real drawing class junior year of high school.  Being raised by two artists, Brandon says that he quickly learned that art was for him. Currently he works at Upland Brewpub and is an avid skateboarder, which has become just about as important to him as his art.  He hopes to attend an art institute.

“New Fluid Works" by Patricia C. Coleman, February 2018

“New Fluid Works", abstracts by Patricia C. Coleman opens in the Flowing Colors Studio, Friday, February 2, 2018.

Tea Before Story by Patricia C. Coleman, Fluid Acrylic, Bloomington, Indiana,
Tea Before Storm
“New Fluid Works” Studio Reception, from 5 to 8 PM.
Light refreshments will be served.

Patricia has been and exhibiting artist since the 1970's and shwoing in Bloomington, IN since the early 80’s.  In this current work with fluid paintings, I am manipulating the paint in a variety of ways with traditional brushes and unexpected tools such as gravity, broom straw and plastic wrap.  Each work unfolds upon its own merits to be interpreted by the viewer and occasionally in some pieces; there are so many references to concrete forms that images seem to be asking to emerge from the beautiful chaos. Both processes are very exciting.

Studio Happenings
~Betty has just returned from a weekend at Way Cross Camp with IPAPA
(Indiana Plein Air Painters Assn.) where she spent the weekend painting
outdoors and indoors, depending on the  temperature.

~Theresa, Don’s wife has created a line of artist jewelry.  It’s made with Swarovski primary colored crystals, with silver colored beads.  Art palette charm and silver toggle clasp.  Standard length bracelet is 7 1/4 inches and she will custom make if different colors are wanted, size adjustments or gold filled rather than silver.  If interested, contact Don.

~Don updated our sign with an IU Basketball painting in oil.  The original and prints are available in the studio!

The Flowing Colors Studio features the works of artist  Don Geyra, Joanne Shank, and Betty Wagoner.  Painting and Traditional Arts events and Classes are offered in the studio each month including Thursday Collage Studio (free), Contemplative Arts, and other classes on Blog Class List.  The group offers original art, prints, cards, one of a kind silk and cotton scarves, local Quilter’s Comfort teas, seasonings, beer jelly and herbal products;  home and tea accessories, paper and fabric tessellations all by local area artist.  Arts demonstrations are held throughout the year.

Classes can also be requested for individuals and small groups.  When class registration is larger than can be accomodated in the studio, we host in other locations.
